Milepost 97 Fire Grows to Over 11,000 Acres

The Milepost 97 Fire south of Canyonville, which sources say was caused by a human, began on Wednesday night and as of 9:30 a.m. has grown to over 11,000 acres. With no expected containment date in sight, at this time the blaze is threatening 586 structures.

According to the latest from the Oregon Department of Forestry, strong winds continued over the fire through most of the evening shift. An update from the Milepost 97 Fire official page on Facebook gives a detailed evacuation map for the Milepost 97 Fire.

The Facebook page for the fire also updated us with a briefing for July 28 as well.

For everyone residing on the west side of the free way in a 5 mile stretch of Interstate 5 between mileposts 88 and 83, A Level 2 “Get Set” evacuation notice has been issued and remains in place. For those living on the Windy Creek Road and above Woods Creek Road, and on Barton Road south to Glendale Junction Road, a Level 1, “Get Ready” notice is also in effect.

The news also reports the human caused fire has already cost over $2.1 million to fight. 41 engines, 6 water tenders, 15 aircraft, 37 hand crews, and 11 dozers are involved, with over 931 personnel working around the clock to fight the Milepost 97 Fire.
