Just a few miles North of Pacific City and Cape Kiwanda you will find the Sandlake Recreation Area, where a 40 foot male grey whale washed up on Sand Lake overnight. The area covers 1,076 acres of open sand dunes, surrounded by forests and along side the Pacific Ocean. The Sandlake Recreation Area offers a variety of recreational opportunities.
According to the Facebook page for the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office, an autopsy was scheduled to be done by biologists from OSU earlier this afternoon.
Of course, anyone from Oregon naturally would think about the exploding whale incident in Florence many years ago. I hope we learned from experience this clearly wasn't the best idea to handle the situation.
