Mt. Bachelor Powers Up Ski Lifts for an Exciting Winter Weekend Launch

by | Dec 1, 2023 | Adventures, Central Oregon, News, Ski/Snowboard

Skiing enthusiasts in Oregon have a reason to celebrate as Mt. Bachelor announces its much-anticipated 23/24 Opening Day, scheduled for December 2nd. This news comes amid a forecast predicting an atmospheric river targeting the mountain, likely to result in multiple feet of snow from Friday through Saturday.

The team at Mt. Bachelor is gearing up for a busy weekend, with preparations underway to operate the lifts despite potential challenges. The primary focus is on getting the Little Pine and Sunrise lifts operational by Saturday morning. However, visitors should be prepared for possible delays due to factors like wind and icing conditions, common in stormy weather.

On Opening Day, conditions permitting, the following operations are expected:

  • Little Pine and Sunrise lifts will be operational.
  • A small Woodward terrain park will be set up on Home Run off Little Pine, offering an exciting challenge for park enthusiasts.
  • Mountain Gateway will be open to provide essential guest services, including PUB pass and ticket pickup, retail, rentals, and tune shop services.
  • West Village Lodge is set to welcome guests with food and drink at Clearing Rock Bar, Pinnacles, and Cocoa’s.
  • Sunrise Lodge will also offer food and drink services at the Sun Bar, Pinnacles, and Sunrise Café.
  • Nordic trails are set to open for the season, with a few trails ready for cross-country skiing enthusiasts to explore.

An important notice for uphill travelers: starting at 12:01 AM on November 30th, the mountain will be closed to all uphill travel. This restriction will be lifted on Opening Day, coinciding with the implementation of a new Uphill Policy. Initially, the Cone Route will be the only uphill travel route available until the Pine Marten Express opens. For those interested in uphill skiing, Mt. Bachelor provides an option to get an Uphill Pass via their website.

This opening announcement from Mt. Bachelor is a significant event for the Oregon skiing community, marking the start of a promising season filled with winter sports and mountain adventures. As always, visitors are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and operational changes, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience on the mountain.
