1. Bowpicker in Astoria

If you're looking for Astoria Oregon Fish And Chips, The Bowpicker is the place to be. Photo via Bowpicker Fish & Chips.

There are few Astoria restaurants with more name recognition than Bowpicker Fish & Chips. And, even if you didn’t know the name of the restaurant, you’ve almost certainly seen it while driving through town since it’s an actual boat and it usually has a line snaking out full of hungry customers. Bowpicker is essentially a food truck, and there are only a few tables outside for eating, or else you’ll have to take your food to go. Also worth noting is that it’s cash only. There are only two things on the menu here—fish and chips—which makes ordering a breeze. All you have to figure out is if you want a whole order (five pieces) or a half order (three pieces). The fish is a perfectly-seasoned, beer-battered albacore and the steak fries are crispy on the outside and tender in the middle. Grab some tartar sauce and malt vinegar and you’ve got one of the best meals on the Oregon coast.

Hours: Wednesday - Saturday 11:00am - 3:00pm (note that hours change depending on the season)

Address: Corner of 17th & Duane St., Astoria

Phone: 503-791-2942

Menu: bowpicker.com

2. Osprey Cafe in Seaside

The Osprey Cafe is a Seaside institution for those in the know and consistently serves up phenomenal breakfast and lunch options, drawing their inspiration from the fresh local seafood available as well as cuisines from around the world. Regulars love the French Toast, Eggs Benedict, Chiliquilies, or Nasi Goreng for breakfast.

For lunch, grab a sandwich like their Oyster Po’ Boy, Turkey and Chimichurri, or go for their signature Arepas plate. You can taste the quality and love that go into every dish and feel the warmth and hospitality at this exemplary seaside cafe.

Hours: Thursday - Monday, 8:00am - 2:00pm

Address: 2281 Beach Dr #5117, Seaside

Phone: 503-739-7054

3. Yolk in Manzanita

Brunch is one of my favorite meals to eat out and Yolk in Manzanita is possibly the best brunch spot I’ve ever been to. The only downside is they’re only open Friday through Monday so you’re on your own during the rest of the week.

Brunch at Yolk

For traditional breakfast fare, try the Huevos Rancheros, Corned Beef Hash, or Crispy French Custard Toast. For lunch options go for the Rueben or the simple, yet perfectly-done Beef Burger. Manzanita is a fairly small beach community and is a popular spot for Portlanders on the weekends so expect a wait. Also note that they don’t offer any espresso drinks, just drip coffee, but you can pop right across the street to Manazinta News & Espresso while you wait!

Hours: Friday - Monday, 8:00am - 2:00pm

Address: 503 Laneda Ave, Manzanita

Phone: 503-812-3378

4. Oshen’s Chophouse at Salishan in Gleneden Beach

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the abundance of seafood-only restaurants on the coast, try Oshen’s Chophouse in the Salishan Lodge that just opened in early 2023 to rave reviews. The dishes and drinks here are as inventive as they are delicious, but the star of the show here are the steaks. You can choose from a filet mignon, prime New York, or a dry-aged tomahawk.

They also make a perfect burger with unique flavor combinations like their Wild Burger made with grilled elk, buffalo, boar and wagyu meat served on a pretzel bun with Gruyere cheese, greens, red onion, tomato, and remoulade sauce. Another must-order item? A smoked cocktail that feels like a magic trick presented at your table.

Lurch Logan / Google

The BEST place on the coast for a classic burger and fries! Burger 101 is a no-frills roadside restaurant, but they seriously know what they’re doing. They use only fresh ingredients, grass-fed beef and your choice is basically how many patties you want on your burger—one, two, three, or four. Each combo meal comes with perfectly seasoned fries and a side of their special sauce and they write your name in it with ketchup!

The Bandon Boardwalk on the southern coast is a great place to take in the fresh ocean air, check local art and shops, and eat! One can’t-miss place is the bright blue building called Tony’s Crab Shack—a part seafood restaurant, part bait & tackle shop.

Way back in 1989 the proprietor, Tony Roszkowski, took over this little shack and initially rented out crab rings and bait to tourists, then offered to steam the crabs after they were caught. Going to Tony’s is more than just visiting a restaurant—it’s a whole experience and one that you can’t pass up.
