There’s not a lot to see in the small, blink-and-you'll-miss-it town of Westport along Hwy 30. In fact, the one establishment you probably do know here lies between Clatskanie and Astoria and is the fantastic Berry Patch Restaurant. Nowhere else in the area can you get such fantastic and homemade berry pies, jams, and jellies.
Started in 1987 by Stan Egaas as a company called Oregon Wild Berries, the business quickly grew. In 1990, Egaas decided to purchase the space he was working out of which became the Berry Patch Restaurant in 1993. In 2020, Egaas decided it was time to retire and sold the company to long-time employee (and fellow pie-lover) Mylene White who vowed to preserve the welcoming nature of the restaurant and continue making great berry products and pies for generations to come.
The star of the show here are the pies. Every year, the pie kitchen at the Berry Patch makes upwards of seven to eight thousand pies to keep up with customer demand. They’re well known for their berry pies that feature local berries like the marionberry, huckleberry, or marionberry cream pie (which I bet you can’t find anywhere else), but they also make every other kind of pie you can think of. Standouts include their strawberry rhubarb, coconut cream, and chocolate peanut butter. You can order by the slice, whole fresh pies, whole frozen pies, They even have a pie vending machine outside, so if you’re driving by after they’re closed you can still get your sugar fix!
In addition to sweets, they also have an awesome breakfast and lunch menu. In the morning try their homemade biscuits and gravy, chicken fried steak and eggs, or some crisp and golden hash browns. You’ll even get a side of fresh boysenberry jam served with your toast. For later in the day you can order huge sandwiches like their Club, Swiss Chicken, or French Dip, but they also have burgers, fish and chips, large salads, homemade potato salad, and homemade clam chowder every Friday. Every table has a bottle of their signature Marionberry Mustard that’s so unique and delicious you’ll probably want to pick up a bottle to take home.
The Berry Patch also has a gorgeous gift shop where you can buy jams, jellies, syrups as well as other locally made products. They have 26 different types of berry products they make by hand for sale in the gift shop. You can also shop their selection online for either in store pick up or delivery.
This family owned, small town restaurant has charm written all over it with friendly service, home cooked meals, and huge portions perfect for sharing. The building is also filled with old logging photos of the area, taking you on a trip back in time to the old growth forests in the area 100 years ago.
Conveniently located on Hwy 30, this is the perfect place to stop for breakfast or lunch on your way out to the coast. Even if you’re not ready for a meal, you can grab a convenient lunch to go out of their deli case or stop in for a slice of pie to eat there or to take with you. Heck, why not grab a whole pie while you’re there!
