Reflecting on the nostalgic memories of the 1990s, Shari's Cafe and Pies in Oregon holds a special place in the hearts of many who grew up during that era. Back then, it was more than just a restaurant; it was a social hub where teenagers and young adults would gather.

For some, including myself, it was our go-to spot for hanging out with friends. We would spend hours at Shari's, sipping on coffee and, as was common in those days, smoking cigarettes. The atmosphere of the cafe, combined with the freedom and camaraderie of youth, made it an iconic place for our generation.

Though times have evolved, notably with the welcome ban on smoking in restaurants, the core charm of Shari's endures unchanged. It continues to be a beloved spot for its comfort food and exceptional pies, serving as a reminder of those simpler times.

The menu has evolved to cater to current tastes and health standards, but the core of what made Shari's special — its welcoming ambiance and local charm — persists.

The chain, which started in Hermiston, Oregon, in 1978 by Ron and Sharon Bergquist, has expanded significantly, with about 45 locations in Oregon and others across the Pacific Northwest. Despite this growth and the inevitable changes over the years, including the notable shift in public health policies like the ban on indoor smoking, Shari's has retained its identity as a cozy, family-style restaurant.

Today, while you can no longer light up a cigarette inside (definitely a good thing!), you can still enjoy the vast array of dishes and, of course, the pies that have made Shari's a regional favorite. From their all-day breakfast menu featuring classics like pancakes and waffles to their extensive lunch and dinner offerings including burgers, sandwiches, and prime rib, there's something for everyone.

And let's not forget the pies — from chocolate cream to pecan and fruit varieties, they're an essential part of the Shari's experience.

Shari's Cafe and Pies stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of good food and warm memories. It's a place where the past and present merge, reminding us of the days gone by while continuing to create new memories for current and future generations.
