You’d be hard-pressed to find a more well-known or well-loved restaurant in Cannon Beach than the Lazy Susan Cafe that’s been satisfying beach goers for years. Here you’ll find your favorite breakfast staples served with a smile, nestled in a compact, two-story cottage next to the Coaster Theater.

The owners, Rosa Alvarez and her husband, Aristeo Maldonado, started working at the Lazy Susan as a dishwasher and in the kitchen in 1995. In 2007, the couple bought the company from the owners who wanted to see it pass down to the employees. Today, you can still find Rosa there every morning (sometimes as early as 3:00am!) baking her famous marionberry scones and bread, then greeting customers once they open at 8:00am along with her husband, sister, two daughters, and granddaughter—talk about a family affair!

The Lazy Susan is run like a well-oiled machine (you won’t find a single lazy thing about it). You’ll feel cared for, but also get your food fast and be ready to start your day at the beach with a full stomach. The restaurant is small and only has a handful of tables, but the homey and warm space is filled with eclectic decor and thoughtful touches like vases of flowers on the tables.

Everything here is made from scratch and you can taste the quality with every bite. It’s hard to pick one menu to highlight since they are all sure to wow you. A few fan favorites are the Gingerbread Waffle topped with pears, lemon, and homemade whip cream, the Johns Special made with two poached eggs on sautéed potatoes, topped with melted Tillamook cheddar cheese and green onions, then served with fresh fruit and an English muffin, or the Peasant Omelet with sautéed potatoes inside, green onions, Tillamook cheddar and a side of fruit.

Anytime you go, be sure to check out “Susan’s Specials” on the white board because honestly you can order anything off here and be blown away. There’s always a special waffle, omelet and a few different quiches and if you’re lucky you’ll find their sought-after Dungeness Crab Benedict which you can only get in season. You also won’t regret ordering on a large side of bacon that’s thick and perfectly cooked.

The Lazy Susan is primarily a breakfast spot, but they serve up an excellent lunch too. Try their Broiled Shrimp Sandwich made with bay shrimp topped with a special sauce, broiled until brown and bubbly, then served open-faced on an English muffin with your choice of green salad or fresh fruit. Or, go for the Mediterranean Seafood Stew made with tomatoes, vegetables, olive oil, fresh rosemary, Parmesan cheese and herbs with bay shrimp, scallops and steamers. Make sure you leave room for dessert which Rosa makes fresh too like her bread pudding, french silk pie, apple walnut cake, or marionberry scones.

It’s worth noting that the Lazy Susan is cash only and they don’t take reservations, so you may have to wait for a table on a busy weekend. There’s no ATM on site but there is one across the street if you're prepared to pay a $3 fee. This small restaurant provides efficient yet incredibly friendly service and great food you won’t want to shut up about—they really know what they’re doing here and have rightfully earned their spot as the best breakfast in Cannon Beach!
