Built inside the old railroad depot in Oregon City is Coasters Crossing, a family-friendly eatery where you can get a little of everything like burgers, clam chowder, seafood, salads, sandwiches, and beer and wine. Coasters Crossing promises a fun atmosphere with excellent customer service and a laid back environment perfect for a casual night out with friends or to bring the whole family. They also have a nice outdoor patio for dining al fresco on a warm day.
The restaurant was opened in 2018 by Brian and Leigh Grant who say the name of the restaurant is inspired both from their own life and their unique location. The “coast” can clearly be seen in the restaurant’s logo that proudly features the iconic Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach since both Brian and Leigh grew up on the coast. These beachy vibes also inspire the menu with items like clam chowder, oysters, fish tacos, and fried fish and chips with housemade tartar sauce. The next part, “Crossing,” takes its name from the restaurant’s distinctive location inside the train station, and throughout the space you’ll find train art (much of which is done by Brian’s parents) and train tracks lining the walls. There's still an active Amtrak platform right outside the building and kids will love to watch the trains come through as they dine.
Both Brian and Leigh have a long history working in the restaurant industry, but it wasn’t until 2016 that they opened their first location, Coasters Brew Pub in Milwaukie on Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard. This establishment was so successful that a city commissioner approached the Grants and asked them to open a new location in Oregon City. When the railway station became vacant, it provided the perfect opportunity to set up another restaurant.
Some of the most popular items are the Steak Frites made with tender sirloin cooked to your liking then thinly sliced and drizzled with demi-glace and served with garlic cheese fries, the hand-battered Fish and Chips where you can choose between Oregon rock fish or Mahi Mahi, and the Fried Oysters, lightly breading and served with a housemade cocktail sauce on the side. Fans also rave about the clam chowder and garlic cheese fries.
The burgers and sandwiches at Coasters are also spectacular like their Cubano Melt with pulled pork, ham, swiss, sliced pickles and dijon mustard on a ciabatta roll, the Hawaiian Chicken Burger piled high with pineapple, swiss, and Hawaiian teriyaki chicken, or their signature Coasters Burger with cajun seasoning, sauteed onions, mushrooms and swiss cheese. All sandwiches and burgers are served with fries, housemade chips, tots, or coleslaw. They also recently started serving brunch on the weekends so you can come in and get classics like chicken fried steak and eggs or biscuits and gravy.
Coasters Crossing is open every day and has a great happy hour Monday through Friday from 3pm to 5pm where you can get great deals on food and all their local brews on tap.
