In a recent development, the Kah-Nee-Ta Hot Springs Village Resort, located on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation, has announced a shift in its reopening date. Initially scheduled to open in the spring, the resort now plans to welcome guests in the summer of 2024. This change is attributed to significant and unexpected challenges encountered during the restoration of this historic property.
Jim Souers, CEO of the Warm Springs Economic Development Corp, credited the progress made to the combined efforts and strategic planning with Mt. Hood Ski Bowl and Tribal leadership. Despite encountering typical hurdles associated with large-scale refurbishments of historic sites, they have successfully navigated these challenges.
The resort, which first opened its doors in 1962 but closed in 2018 due to financial constraints, had initially hoped to reopen this summer. However, a severe wind and rain storm in May further delayed the reopening. The resort's updated plan includes a wide range of new and improved features, aiming to offer an enhanced experience for guests and visitors.
Among the planned amenities are:
- Updated Motel Accommodations: The motel will offer 30 rooms, including three-bedroom suites for up to 12 guests and individual rooms for four guests.
- Expanded RV Park: The park will feature a new clubhouse, additional RV spots, and improved facilities including restrooms, showers, and a laundry area.
- Authentic Teepees: The resort will introduce twenty new teepees, including two designed for disability access, featuring modern amenities while maintaining cultural authenticity.
- Enhanced Pool Facilities: Utilizing advanced Micro Fusion Nano Bubble technology, the pools will offer an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional chemical treatments. The pool area will include ADA-compliant features, a concierge, and various cabana options.
- Riverfront Hot Springs: Guests can look forward to private riverfront hot springs soaking tubs, including options for disability access.
- Revitalized Spa and Sporting Areas: The spa will undergo renovations to include mineral-enriched soaking tubs, alongside upgraded sports facilities such as pickleball, basketball, and volleyball courts.
- The Forever Club: This initiative allows community members to become part of the resort's legacy through the purchase of personalized pavers.
- Infrastructure Upgrades: Comprehensive upgrades to the resort's infrastructure, including HVAC systems, Wi-Fi, and utility repairs, have been undertaken to enhance guest comfort and experience.
The resort invites the community to be part of its journey by joining the Kah-Nee-Ta Forever Club and supporting the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs in their endeavor to rejuvenate this cultural tourism destination.
